How to Export Your WhatsApp Chat (iPhone & Android)

If you want to read through your old memories or analyze your group chat stats using tools like ChatWrapped, you first need to export your chat history. Here is how you do it securely.

Exporting on iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap to enter the specific group or private chat you want to export.
  2. Tap the Group Name (or Contact Name) at the very top of the screen to open the settings menu.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and tap Export Chat.
  4. A prompt will ask if you want to attach media. Tap Without Media (this makes the file much smaller and faster to send).
  5. Save the generated .txt or .zip file to your "Files" app, or send it to yourself via email or Airdrop!

Exporting on Android

  1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
  2. Tap the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top right corner.
  3. Tap More, then tap Export chat.
  4. Choose Without media.
  5. Save the file to Google Drive or email it to yourself.
